But Wait, There's Lore

Loresclusive: Worgen and Goblins and Halloween, oh my!

Goblins and Worgen and Masks, oh my

Goblins and Worgen and Masks, oh my

A very, VERY hearty thanks to my GOOD friend Handclaw and all the guys down at Scrolls of Lore.com… they may have the biggest lore discovery this side of blizzcon! Handclaw has  uncovered evidence that worgen and goblins may just be the next expansion’s races… if I were to guess, I’d say the goblins would be joining the horde and the worgen would be joining the alliance. “But wait, Oma, you lisping madman, what does this have to do with the new races?”

When was the last time Blizz added new Halloween masks? When the Draenei and Blood Elves joined the playing field. And look at those worgen textures. So detailed! Not to mention there’s evidence of a FEMALE worgen… they don’t even have female taunka or forest trolls! Blizz is obviously putting a lot of work into this… and I think they just spilled the beans. Well, we’ll know at blizzcon, eh?

  5. They actually do have female taunka… it’s just that except for the nose and the larger size, they look just like female tauren. Which is really a shame.

I hesitate to call those worgen masks, though… the proportions are more suited to a feline race rather than a lupine one. However, there aren’t any cat-people that we know of in WoW, so I’m not sure what else they could be unless they’re going to make a new race from scratch. (no pun intended)

    • They have female taunka, lorewise, but in game they do not even have a unique model- they just use the female tauren model and the white player skin.

I can also see why you’d say those faces look feline, but if you go to the SoL thread, the masks’ files are helm_mask_halloween_WoM and helm_mask_halloween_WoF. The “wo” part probably stands for worgen while the M or F denotes te gender of the mask.

  8. What exotic looking green eyes the female Worgen has. But while the faces look kinda feline while flattened for the marsks, I can see them being Worgen if the snout was stretched out further. And the female doesn’t look feline at all, the snout is too thin. Looks more like a deer flat like this. :P

  9. Just after I last posted, I had a hilarious mental image of a Worgen running around in Outlands clown gear.

    • Both of those masks are two dimensional, front views, as you know. I assure you they are canine rather than feline, though I can definitely see you miconstruing the male wolf as a panther. I actually think there may be a bit of fox involved in the female worgen, rather than wolf, it’s not like we’ve seen any in game before and blizz may want to mix things up. The thing is, though, Blizzard (or rather, Tom Chilton) said in an interview that they wouldn’t introduce a race they haven’t already seeded into the game world. The only instance of feline humanoids in game are those two bosses in zul’gurub (where trolls take on the spirits of their gods and turn into avatars)… not really much “seeding”. Then you see the Worgen have returned full force in WotLK and they even revisited the much requested scythe of elune questline… comparatively, Worgen have more pre-game lore known than the Draenei.
